Seattle Course Details

The course will once again provide a great tour of most of the city, especially for teams in the 7-hour or 16-hour events.

As mentioned in the rules, travel through parks during closing hours is prohibited. Most parks are closed between 11:30 p.m. and 4:00 a.m., but some have different closing hours. The course has been designed such that it will not be a big incovenience to navigate around parks while they are closed. Myrtle Edwards Park, Northwest of the downtown waterfront, and Green Lake Park are open 24 hours. A few checkpoints may be inside parks, businesses, and other places that are closed at night. You may visit these checkpoints only during the hours listed on the question sheet.

The map will be on two or three 11"x17" sheets of paper with a fair amount of overlap. As usual, maps will be at 1:35,000 scale. You can order a set of larger scale maps (1:25,000, close to the scale of the original USGS map and also our usual Street Scramble scale) for an additional $10.

The question sheet, as stated elsewhere in the website, will be a double-sided 8.5" x 14" sheet of paper. One side will have the questions for the checkpoints on one map page or geographic area, and the other side will have the questions for the checkpoints on the other.

Storing Your Stuff

You will be allowed to leave your stuff with us during the race. If you are in the duathlon division, see below. Otherwise, signage will direct you where to leave your stuff according to time limit (3-hour, 7-hour, or 16-hour). We cannot guarantee that your stuff will be safe. We have not had any theft incidents so far. It's best if you can store your stuff in a duffle or bag.

Duathlon Transition

The 7-hour transition will be at 7:30 p.m., and the 16-hour transition will be at midnight. As stated in the event rules, you are allowed to return to the event center at any time, but you will not be allowed to leave on your bikes until the halfway point (7:30 for the 7-hour, midnight for the 16-hour). There is no penalty for transitioning late.

We will have a large tent for storing your bikes and transition gear. Registration will be in one tent; the other is for your gear, so just drop it off there when you arrive. If we are organized enough, you will see signs directing you where to put your stuff according to whether you are in the 16-hour or the 7-hour race. It's best if you put your gear in a tub and label it with team name and race length (7hr/16hr) and also label your bike, because we may need to move your stuff around.

Shortly before each transition we will try to stage the bikes and tubs in a convenient location with someone to guard them. If you don't find your bikes and gear when you return, ask a staff person for assistance.

Refreshments will be available during your transition.

Your gear and bikes will be in a staffed area at all times. However, we cannot guarantee that your bike will be 100% safe. You may wish to bring a lock to prevent anyone from riding off with your bike when we are not looking. We have had no theft incidents so far.

How to Get There

Public Transit

For bus information, visit the King County Metro website. Try Metro's Trip Planner for a custom point-to-point transit solution.
In the "Where does your trip end?" text box, put in: 2550 34th Ave W

Driving and Parking

There are several viable routes to the event center; the best one depends on where you are coming from.

Park either in the community center lot (recommended for 7-hour and 16-hour teams, especially those with bikes) or find nearby street parking. Some of the adjacent street parking is limited to two hours until 6pm Saturday, especially around the business district to the South. You can find unrestricted parking North of the event center and in the residential areas.
